The idea of a festival was born in 1996. But the way the festival was developing changed in 1998 naming itself " Evènements Renaissance ". One of the major goals was to liven up the upper town and the remarkable Renaissance area classified as a safeguarded district.
For 4 years the festival Renaissances, outstanding event during summer in the Lorraine region, has adopted a new feeling with its new name. It has become the only fantastic French mix of ancient music and street theatre. Its novelty comes from an unpredictable mix of various arts, as it could be conceived during the 16th century.

The festival 2005 will be taking place from 30th June to 3rd July 2005 and will be based on the following themes: Plays, Celebrations and other Follies.
During the 16th century, a celebration was a major event in the social life: i.e. hardness and precariousness of daily life got better. But a lot of incidents took place during these celebrations, that is why they were often under supervision. For example: the walls' guns were often pointed at the town in order to prevent demonstrators from getting out of hand.
